Two requests for all field participants;

First, please place your preliminary data on the CHAPS ftp site no later than December. Connor Flynn has worked with ARM colleagues to give us a password protected FTP site. If you haven't received the instructions already from Connor regarding how to access the site, please contact him. If you don't have a folder at this site, also please contact Connor and we'll make it right. The ASP data policy document, posted at http://www.asp.bnl.gov/datapolicyR3.html, requires that a draft data set be in the ASP archive within 6 months of the end of the campaign.

Second, I would like to hear from each of you for 'lessons learned.' What could any of us have done to make CHAPS go more smoothly? What could we do differently to make the next campaign go more smoothly? We'll accumulate these suggestions for posting on either the CHAPS or ASP webpage after receiving some reasonable number of suggestions. All topics are open for critique. . .instrument preparation, site logistics, pre-campaign testing, hotel and travel arrangements, etc.

06.JUN.07
There were no aircraft operations today to allow for the team to address a number of issues. The CCN counter has arrived in Ponca City and is being mounted back in the G-1. A problem has been identified in the CAPS probe and it was shipped back to DMT for repairs, and we expect that the instrument will be returned soon. Were are planning research flight tomorrow to sample in the Oklahoma City plume.

05.JUN.07
The King Air is planning on flying a pattern under a CALIPSO underpass, while the G-1 is planning on an additional test flight to address some minor problems with one of the inlets.

The B200 is currently flying a CALIPSO validation flight over eastern Oklahoma and eastern Kansas. The flight includes passes over the ACRF Southern Great Plains site's Central Facility. Tomorrow, Tuesday June 6, is a no-fly day. There is a possibility on Thursday, the 7th, of a coordinated flight with the G-1, weather permitting.

04.JUN.07
Both the G-1 and the King Air conducted flights today. The King Air sampled around Oklahoma City. The G-1 conducted an abbreviated pattern to the northeast of Ponca City. Generally both flights were successful in addressing their mission goals. Some problems were found with the AMS on the G-1, but these problems have been corrected. Some minor problems were discovered with the aerosol inlet

The B200 also flew a checkout/science mission on Monday, June 4. The B200 flew the G-1 stacked pattern #2 to gain experience working with the Air Traffic Controllers on one of the standard CHAPS patterns. The flight included segments around Oklahoma City and included a pass over the ARM SGP CRF site. The HSRL operated well again.

03.JUN.07
The B200 flew a transit flight from NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) today. The transit flight had two segments: NASA Langley to St. Louis, MO, and St.Louis to Ponca City. The High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) operated well and successfully acquired data during both segments. The second segment included a CALIPSO validation pass from central Kansas to Oklahoma before landing in Ponca City.

Weather briefing, 8:00 AM, in the situation room (attendance is optional).
G-1 Meeting, 8:30 AM, in the G-1 room at the Ponca City Tower Building.

30.APR.07
The latest calendar (16-Apr-2007) of planned activities (e.g., dates for instrument installation, G-1 departure dates, etc.) is now posted on the website. If you haven't looked at it yet, please take a look.

Not yet shown on the calendar is a CHAPS/CLASIC Media Day (or the CLASIC/CHAPS Media Day). This is tentatively scheduled for May 11th. will be pulling this activity together and contacting various folks as she prepares supporting materials. Please contact Lynne if you have any questions.

We're still trying to complete our roster of emergency contacts. Field folks need to get this information to
as soon as possible. Also, it will greatly help if the field folks get their arrival/departure dates to her. Bev is tackling the many logistical issues related to the campaign, including office space, desks, telephones, etc. so it'll help her mightily to know our comings and goings. Contact Bev for any special needs or requests.

A Daily Flight Planning and Operations Schedule is now posted. This will likely be fine tuned at next week's planning meeting in Ponca City (May 10-11th), but suggestions prior to this meeting are welcome. Note that we'll have a separate checklist for instrument preparation prior to each flight.

The budgeted hours for various G-1 flights are also posted. The "Pattern Numbers" shown in this document correspond to the actual flight plans that is submitting to FAA and DOE. Note that the flight plans have been recently revised.
